Job Description
OVERALL PURPOSE OF POSITION
The Reporting and FP&A Manager provides the divisional Head with strategic inputs to align with the overall goals of the organisation through accurate financial decision-making, strategic planning, and optimised financial discipline within the airline. The post is responsible for delivering and executing fit for purpose processes to understand, report and anticipate the financial performance of KM Malta Airlines, make financial decisions, and meet all relevant statutory and regulatory requirements placed upon the organisation. It may also be required to engage in broader Finance functions which lie outside of the remit of the division.
MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for supporting the Head of Reporting and FP&A with the management, development, and delivery of management accounting and reporting, financial reports and budgets and cost management.
Plans and Objectives
- Participating and, when required, taking a leading role in managing KM Malta Airlines’ accounting processes and practices, including identifying opportunities and targets to reduce KM Malta Airlines’ costs and/or increase its performance through better practices.
- Advises and assists the Head of Reporting and FP&A with respect to the financial needs of the Company, providing strategic input to align financial administration with the overall goals of the organisation.
- Accountable for identifying opportunities and targets to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of decision support analysis processes and practices.
- Create and update financial models allowing for long-range planning in the business.

Technical
Reporting and General Accounting:
- Execute monthly, quarterly and yearly reporting procedures as per the guidance of the Head of Reporting and FP&A within the set timelines and analysis of monthly cash flow, profit & loss, and balance sheet for management reporting, developing financial statements accordingly.
- Oversee the closing of accounts and preparing of monthly and annual financial statements.
- Responsible for ensuring all financial transactions are accurately recorded in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). This includes managing accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and general ledger.
- Manage financial information including accounts payable and accounts receivable and prepare balance sheets. Resolve any emerging issues or queries related to accounts payable and receivable.
- Ensuring compliance with financial regulations and internal controls. This involves regular audits and reviews to prevent and detect any discrepancies or financial mismanagement.
- Prepares asset, liability, and capital account records by compiling and analysing accounting information.
- Preparing and reviewing trial balance and various itemised schedules regularly.

Budgeting:
- Coordinate with management and staff to prepare budgets.
- Responsible for cost management on behalf of the assigned departments.
- Responsible for providing financial analysis to support initiatives and investments or contracts on behalf of KM Malta Airlines.

General finance duties:

- Oversee the month-end and year-end procedures.

Management and operational improvement
- Accountable for the development, smooth operation, and improvement of KM Malta Airlines’ accounting and finance processes, including the implementation of relevant special projects,
- when necessary.Responsible for supporting financial systems on behalf of the Company and the implementation of new systems including the financial digitisation process.
- Seeking opportunities to streamline and automate financial processes to increase operational and administrative efficiency.
- Establishing and maintaining financial processes, system controls and adherence to policies and SOPs in all areas having a financial impact.
- Oversee the proper payment of taxes and relevant financial compliances in KM Malta Airlines, including the finalising and maintenance of all relevant statutory reports.
- Responsible for maintaining a sound relationship both with internal and external stakeholders.
- Contribute to championing and driving the success of special projects in the Finance Department, especially those pertaining to the digitalisation of systems and processes.

Areas of Knowledge and Expertise
- Excellent working knowledge of accounting regulations and procedures, including the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) with a broad knowledge of general ledger and related financial system functionality.
- Knowledge of local Tax regulation and relevant local laws and practices may be required depending upon the specific allocated responsibilities.
- Familiarity with relevant budgeting and accounting software and tools.
- Knowledge of internal control frameworks and the ability to assess and improve financial processes and controls to enhance accuracy, efficiency and compliance.
- Sound understanding of accounting and financial reporting principles and practices.
Experience, Qualifications and Skills
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a supervisory or managerial role (essential).
- Experience in the Commercial Aviation industry is advantageous (desirable).
- Experiencing within Maltese Aviation financial regulatory frameworks (desirable).
- A recognised degree in Finance or Accountancy, or an equivalent comparable professional qualification as recognised by the MQRIC (essential).
- A recognised post-graduate degree, in Accounting, Finance or a similar field is advantageous (desirable).
- Applicant is ideally a fully qualified Accountant (desirable).
- Proficient in managing all aspects of the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll. This includes ensuring accurate and timely recording of financial transactions.
- Ability to prepare detailed departmental budgets, monitor actual spending against budget and analyse variances to guide financial decision-making.
- Ability to prepare periodic financial reports (monthly, quarterly, annual) and perform variance analysis, cost analysis, and other financial analyses to support management's understanding of financial performance.
- Able to define goals and objectives and achieve these within budgetary, time and resource constraints.
- Demonstrate good judgement in setting priorities and making appropriate timely decisions.
- Good communication skills, both verbally and in writing, with superiors, subordinates, and a range of stakeholders inside the organisation. This includes the delivery of presentations.
- A keen detail orientation, ensuring that all entries and financial data are accurately inputted, calculated, and reported.
- Able to meet responsibilities professionally and efficiently, working to tight deadlines and demonstrating composure under pressure.
- Capable of effectively negotiating with third parties on behalf of KM Malta Airlines.
- An advanced level of competency in MS Office and the Accounting software packages used in KM Malta Airlines.
- Solution-oriented with a proactive, self-starter approach to work.
- A willingness and ability to transcend functional boundaries and collaborate with business exigencies.
